Using a Journal’s Aims & Scope and Instructions for Authors to Author's Advantage
What, Where, and Why
1. Once you’ve found a possible journal to submit your article to, make sure it’s right by reading the Aims & Scope.
What’s the Aims & Scope?
2. It is a brief introduction to the journal, including an outline of the subjects covered, the type of articles published (and what it doesn’t publish), and its peer-review policy.
Instructions for Authors
3. As you come closer to choosing your journal, look at the journal’s Instructions for Authors. On 'Crime and Justice' Online, you can find this on the journal page. This will let you know what you need to do to submit your article, including general guidelines, word count, templates, and style guides. If you follow these, you’ll know your article is in exactly the right format for submission. This will save you valuable time and effort later on.
New Guidelines for Research Data
4. Authors submitting their research article to this journal are encouraged to deposit research data in a relevant data repository and cite and link to this data set in their article. If this is not possible, authors are encouraged to make a statement explaining why research data cannot be shared. There are several ways you can share your data when you publish with Elsevier, which help you get credit for your work and make your data accessible and discoverable for your peers. Find out more in the Guide for Authors.
